The Opportunity

We are seeking expressions of interest from passionate and purpose-driven individuals to join the YBSS Board of Management in a voluntary capacity. We currently have a casual vacancy available through to the AGM in December 2026.

As a member of the Board, you will contribute to the governance and strategic leadership of YBSS — helping to set direction, oversee organisational risk, guide key commercial decisions, and monitor financial performance. We hold integrity and professionalism in high regard, and our Board is committed to a culture of continuous improvement that ensures YBSS remains strong and sustainable well into the future.

This is a volunteer role that can be carried out remotely, opening the opportunity to candidates from across Queensland and beyond. The Board convenes quarterly across a scheduled calendar of Board and sub-committee meetings, and members are expected to arrive prepared and engage actively. We are looking for individuals whose diverse skills and perspectives will enrich our discussions and contribute to sound, well-rounded governance.

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for candidates who bring prior Board or governance experience and a heartfelt commitment to improving the lives of children and adults living with disability. Relevant skills and backgrounds include:

  • Strategic thinking and analytical capability
  • Finance and accounting management
  • Governance and compliance
  • Legal expertise
  • Risk management and internal audit
  • Human resources
  • Professional directorship experience
  • Asset management

The ideal candidate will be a confident and considered communicator — someone who listens well, contributes thoughtfully, and isn’t afraid to ask the hard questions. Empathy and a collaborative spirit are essential, as is a shared commitment to building a Board that leads YBSS into a strong future.YBSS is a child-safe organisation and takes the safety and wellbeing of children and vulnerable people seriously. Prior to commencing in the role, successful candidates will be required to hold or obtain:

A current Blue Card (Working with Children Check – Queensland)
A current NDIS Worker Screening Clearance
